As an organization Sigma Kappa encourages our members to be involved in their campus and community. Because of this focus on involvement outside of Sigma Kappa, our sisters are able to engage with the campus and community in ways that are important to them by hosting and participating in a number of different events.
The Ultra Violet Gala is our biggest philanthropy event every year. We sell tickets to our guests, and they can enjoy a delicious catered dinner while also browsing several silent auction items. There are also small games guests can play throughout the night. All proceeds made at our Ultraviolet Gala go to the Sigma Kappa Foundation. The Sigma Kappa Foundation then distributes that money to the Alzheimer's Association which is why we wear purple.
In September we participate in the Walk to End Alzheimer's. Every member participates in the walk and some members raise money. Each member holds a flower, with different colors symbolizing the relationship they have with Alzheimers. We hope to soon make Alzheimers a distant memory! We were so happy to share our philanthropic events with our new members and our families.
Week of Giving leads up to our Founder's Day. Each day is a different event that gives back to the community and/or our philanthropies. Some examples of events we have done in the past include making goody-bags for our fellow students, cleaning up the streets of Carbondale in honor of Inherit the Earth, standing outside Walmart to raise money for the Alzheimer's Association, and collecting coats and other items for the Maine Seacoast Mission.
